== They're often fine but they can't be relied upon

Be careful reading the reviews on here, most of them seem to be from people who haven't actually USED the rockfax to climb in Chamonix. The Chamonix rockfax is to route descriptions what Easyjet are to air travel. They're often fine but they can't be relied upon, you might not get there or you'll end up late.Occasionally you won't arrive at all.
It is an outstanding coffee table book with superb photos for inspiration and if it were sold as such it would deserve 5 stars. However, it purports to be a guidebook and, as such, is littered with errors. Approach information is wrong, there are incorrect pitch descriptions or pitches completely missing from routes, grades can be incorrect. I know of at least 1 person who took a 10 metre fall after following the Rockfax description which sends you the wrong way (Lepiney Crack on the Peigne). Amongst guides and climbers in the Chamonix valley it is now being referred to as "The Book of Lies" and the word on the street is that one of the writers felt the book was not ready for publishing but Rockfax went ahead anyway.
This isn't to say it's not worth buying. As a book to get ideas it is superb and the photos are better than anywhere else. Just be prepared to buy an actual guidebook in Chamonix so you can climb the routes safely
